Return of the Talekeeper (6-1)

Recommended Party: 12 x Level 60
Suggested level/pt size: Around 10-12 level 60s can do this easily. If going with larger amounts of lower levels, make sure your tank is at least 60. The damage dealed is pretty nasty.

To start this quest, you must trade a stack of crystals to an IM and then talk to a gate guard. They will tell you to go to Bastok Mines and talk to Medicine Eagle, who can be found on the left at the top of the ramp down to Ore Street. You must then go talk to Drake Fang who is by the boat from Zeruhn Mines. You will see a cutscene where Iron Eater will approve your mission and tell you to go check out Altepa.

In the center of West Altepa, is Airs Rock. Southwest of the west end of airs rock is a ??? (G-8). Examine it, and two mobs will pop. The Western and Eastern Sphinx. A party of 10-12 60s will handle this easily, but I would recommend bringing 2 healers along. The damage is pretty high.

Talk to Tall Mountain in Bastok Mines on Ore Street by the ?estricted Section·in order to complete this mission.

The Pirates' Cove (6-2)

Recommended Party: 12 x Level 60
Dig our the Adaman Ore that can be found in Ifrit Caldron. Zone from Yhoator Jng (I-5) to go in the East entrance of Ifrit Cauldron. Then turn left at the first split, then right on next. Trade the Adaman ore at the ??? where lava is falling, then NM Lizard and NM Bomb pop up. Bats that are in the path to the ??? respond to sound, Bombs respond to sight and spell cast, and bees are not active.

For starters, from somewhere you will need to get an Adaman Ore. These can be found cheapest in the Jeuno AH, or can be mined from Ifrit's Cauldron. It's a rare find, however, so unless you have someone with top mining gear and a fairly decent knowledge of the mining points in Ifrit's Cauldron, buying from the AH is recommended. It's a spendy item, but you only need one Adaman Ore for every 6 people, so if you divide it 6 ways, the 40,000 gil you receive from completing the mission should more than pay for it.

12 people whose average level is at least 60 is recommended for this quest. Start by picking up the quest from any guard. Your Rank Points bar will likely need to be full. You will be directed to Naji, the guard outside the President's Office, where you will be treated to a cut scene.

You will be sent to talk to Gilgamesh in Norg. If you have not entered Norg since defeating the Shadow Lord, you will be completed to a long cut scene, as well as another one when you talk to Gilgamesh. Make sure you talk to him until he tells you to retrieve a Frag Rock from Ifrit's Cauldron.

Take a chocobo to Yhoator Jungle, and take the I-5 entrance to Ifrit's Cauldron. The ??? is near to the entrance, but you still need to be careful. Bees do not agro, but bats and volcanic gasses both will. They both con DC at 63 generally, but the gasses can explode, doing over 1200 points of damage to everyone standing around. So have Barfira and Stoneskin up if these things agro, and have Stun ready. But generally try to avoid them.

From the entrance, head left at the first junction, then take the next right. At H-7, there will be a lava flow with a ??? in the middle of it. To trigger the NM, you will need to trade an adaman ore to it. If there are any other mobs floating around (there were not when we were there), you willl want to take care of them first. There is a volcanic gas on the other side of an impassable rock ridge, but it never linked while we were there.

There are actually two NM's: Magma (a bomb) and Salamander (a lizard). The bomb drops the Frag Rock whereas the Salamander does not. If you can figure out a way to kill the bomb without the lizard, that would be fine. As with all bombs, make sure you have Stoneskin and Barfira up and people ready with Stun. We killed it 4 times without having it explode once, so it's certainly doable. The Salamander will cast a Fireball, but it doesn't do huge amounts of damage.

Once the Magma is dead, it will drop 6 frag rocks. Each of these is Rare/Ex. Someone without a Frag Rock will have to trade the Adaman Ore, so if you are doing it multiple times, you may need to trade the 2nd or 3rd ore around some.

Once you are got your Frag Rock, return to Norg and trade your Frag Rock to Gilgamesh for a cut scene. Then return to Bastok and talk to Naji for a cut scene, Rank 7 and 40,000 gil.
