Although Lucca is mentioned before Marle, she appears in the game after Marle joins your party. Lucca is Crono's best friend and a skilled inventor despite her inventions often going awry. Lucca's newest invention, the 'Telepod' is the reason Crono went to the Millennial Fair, and, although appearing in the game only briefly, is one of the most important plot devices. The Telepod reacts with Marle's pendant and causes Marle to go back in time, beginning the chain of events which lead to the final battle with Lavos. Lucca uses a gun to fight and has an affinity with the fire element. The actual meaning of the word Lucca is unclear. There is an Italian city named Lucca that has links with various famous writers of literature including Dante and Machiavelli. However, this doesn't seem to be very logical, as, unlike the character, the city of Lucca is more affiliated with the arts than technology. It is probable that Lucca simply resembles the pronunciation of the Japanese name.
